Beskrivning av samhällsfrågan

The globalized economic system has long been promised as a path to prosperity and efficiency — but the result has been ever increasing climate emissions, fragile supply chains and growing gaps between people. Now, a movement is growing for building new economies on a human scale.

Utökad information om evenemanget

On June 23, two voices from the international localization movement will come to Almedalen to share concrete solutions and inspiring examples. They will talk about their work to shed light on one of the least discussed but most influential drivers behind this development: free trade agreements and the so-called ISDS (Investor-State Dispute Settlement) mechanisms, which give multinational companies the right to sue states when political decisions threaten their expected profits. This has in practice made it more difficult for countries to pursue active climate policies, protect local markets and safeguard the interests of their citizens. Fatima Osman Abdalla, active in Real Economy, and Henry Coleman from Local Futures — the organization founded by Right Livelihood Award recipient Helena Norberg-Hodge — meet for a conversation about economies on a human scale, beyond global corporate capitalism.
