Beskrivning av samhällsfrågan
War places immense psychological pressure on those serving on the frontline and across defense systems. Mental health and recovery are essential for sustaining defense capacity and societal resilience. How can resilience become part of national security and preparedness?
Utökad information om evenemanget
This event expands the discussion by bringing practical experience from Ukraine, where the psychological impact of prolonged war on those serving on the frontline has become a critical challenge for defense systems and society. Repower’s work is based on an innovative recovery approach developed through programs supporting frontline medical personnel exposed to the psychological pressure of war. The approach combines recovery, peer exchange and holistic practices aimed at restoring human capacity and long-term resilience. This space creates a discussion on how mental health can be integrated into defense and preparedness strategies. Participants will reflect on resilience as a factor of national security. It takes place in a curated space where art serves as a communication tool. A thought-provoking installation translates invisible psychological pressure into a tangible public experience and opens space for dialogue across defense, policy and civil society perspectives.

Beskrivning av samhällsfrågan
In Ukraine, civil society has become an operational part of the defence ecosystem. How do civic initiatives, volunteer networks and recovery programs strengthen resilience and support those serving on the frontline?
Utökad information om evenemanget
Ukraine’s war has revealed how civil society can become an operational component of a nation’s defence system. Volunteer networks, civic initiatives and independent organizations play a critical role in supporting those serving on the frontline, often responding faster and more flexibly than traditional structures. Repower’s recovery programs supporting frontline medics demonstrate how civil initiatives can strengthen the human dimension of defence by addressing psychological resilience and recovery after extreme stress. The discussion explores how these models of civil engagement interact with formal defence structures and how they contribute to national resilience. The conversation also connects Ukraine’s experience with the Nordic perspective, including Sweden’s Total Defence doctrine and the role of civil society organizations in crisis preparedness. It invites reflection on how cooperation between state and civic initiatives can strengthen future security systems.

Beskrivning av samhällsfrågan
War creates psychological experiences that are often difficult to express through policy language alone. How can art help translate complex and invisible aspects of war, trauma and resilience into a public conversation?
Utökad information om evenemanget
The psychological realities of war are often difficult to communicate through traditional policy discussions. Experiences such as trauma, recovery and resilience are complex and deeply human, yet they remain largely invisible within public and political discourse. This event explores how art can function as a communication tool for translating these experiences into forms that can be understood, felt and reflected upon by a wider audience. The installation presented within the Repower space transforms the invisible psychological pressure of war into a tangible public experience. By engaging with artistic expression, visitors are invited not only to observe but to reflect on the human dimension of war and recovery. Drawing on Ukraine’s experience, the event demonstrates how art can open new forms of dialogue between civil society, policymakers and defence actors. It creates a space where complex themes such as resilience, trauma and recovery can be approached beyond institutional langua

War in Ukraine changes more than lives. It transforms landscapes, ecosystems, human relationships and the way people experience the world around them. How do these changes affect mental health, resilience and society’s ability to recover during and after war?
Utökad information om evenemanget
The full-scale war in Ukraine has changed not only people but also the environments they inhabit. Forests have been burned and mined, coastlines militarized, and familiar sounds replaced by drones and explosions. For many Ukrainians, nature itself has become associated with danger rather than safety. At the same time, nature remains one of the most powerful resources for psychological recovery. This creates a broader question for society: how do war, trauma and prolonged uncertainty reshape the relationship between people, places and community? This event marks the opening of The Force of Nature, a photo exhibition created by Repower in partnership with Lumell Associates. Importantly, the exhibition itself does not focus on destruction, violence or loss. Instead, it highlights beauty, presence, connection and the remarkable human capacity to recover. Through photographs created during a recovery programme for Ukrainian frontline medics on Gotland, visitors encount
