Opening by the Commanding officer of the Gotland Regiment P18 The exhibition Through Their Eyes brings together two powerful projects — Chasiv Yar – Fireproof and the award-winning Frontline Rolls — revealing the reality of war through the eyes of Ukrainian soldiers. Chasiv Yar – Fireproof is dedicated to the defense of Chasiv Yar by soldiers of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. The photographs are displayed on fragments of a fence from the Donetsk region, damaged by Russian shelling, as well as within the exhibition tent — grounding the images directly in the material reality of war. Frontline Rolls — winner of the 2026 PHMuseum Prize — offers a deeply personal insight into the lives and inner worlds of soldiers on the front line. By sending disposable film cameras to different sections of the front line, project author Sergey Melnitchenko gave soldiers the opportunity to document their own reality. The result is a unique archive of wartime testimonies.

How do you lead a region on the front line, partly occupied, under constant attack and hosting Europe’s largest nuclear power plant? How do civilian and military leaders cooperate to protect people, services, and stability in such conditions?

What does it mean to lead a region under constant threat, where parts of the territory are occupied, where civilians live under repeated attacks, and where Europe’s largest nuclear power plant remains at the center of global security concerns? In this session, the regional leader of Zaporizhzhia will share first-hand insights into governing under wartime conditions. The discussion will address the challenges of maintaining public services, supporting civilians, and making critical decisions while operating close to an active front line. The conversation will also include military representatives responsible for defending the region. Together, we will explore how civilian leadership and military command work in parallel, how responsibilities are coordinated, and what this cooperation looks like in practice. This session offers a unique perspective on resilience, crisis leadership, and the reality of managing a European region in the midst of war. There will be much room for questions.

Russia’s war against Ukraine has resulted in the forced transfer and abduction of Ukrainian children. These are serious violations of international law and children’s rights. How can these children be returned to their families and communities, and how can those responsible be held accountable?

Meet the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, who also has a specific responsibility for the EU’s efforts to secure the return of abducted Ukrainian children. The discussion focuses on the extensive violations that have been documented, including the forced transfer and abduction of Ukrainian children from occupied territories. The conversation will explore the legal, political, and humanitarian tools available to facilitate the children’s return to their families and to ensure accountability for these actions. It will also highlight the EU’s role in strengthening support for Ukraine and advancing justice and accountability efforts. The event will be held in the “Hot Seat” format—an open and reflective conversation that gives the audience the opportunity to listen, engage, and ask questions.
