Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to affect millions of civilians. Kherson has become a symbol of resilience under occupation, attacks and humanitarian crises. How can democratic societies support communities facing war while strengthening international solidarity and local resilience?
Utökad information om evenemanget
Join us for a screening of Kherson: Human Safari (72 min), a documentary by American war correspondent and filmmaker Zarina Zabrisky, followed by a discussion with policymakers, municipal leaders and civil society representatives. The film documents Kherson’s experience from Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 through occupation, resistance, liberation, the flooding caused by the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, and life under continued attacks. It highlights the resilience, courage and determination of ordinary people who continue to live, work and rebuild despite constant danger. The discussion will explore civilian resilience, international solidarity, city partnerships, local democracy during wartime, the role of journalism and documentary filmmaking, and how democratic societies can support Ukraine’s recovery and future resilience. 16:45 Welcome Remarks 16:50 Film Screening 18:05 Panel Discussion & Audience Q&A

Traditional aid is often too slow and bureaucratic to meet urgent local needs. Ukraine is a laboratory for democratic, technological, and rehabilitation-driven innovation that connects local needs directly with international donors, businesses, doctors, authorities and partners.
Utökad information om evenemanget
Ukraine’s reconstruction is Europe’s largest democracy project, yet traditional aid is often too slow to reach grassroots communities. This panel explores how Ukraine is transforming wartime challenges into innovative solutions, from municipal partnerships and digital tools to trauma rehabilitation and international medical cooperation. * Why traditional aid mechanisms often fail local communities. * Turning reconstruction into a participatory democratic process through technology and direct partnerships. * Funding central governments versus empowering communities directly. * Lessons from Ukraine’s experience in rehabilitation, resilience, and recovery. From War Trauma to Global Innovation: How Ukraine is Shaping the Future of Rehabilitation. This session connects war resilience, healthcare innovation, technology, and transparency, demonstrating that rebuilding is not merely charity but a citizen-driven process that can generate solutions for Ukraine, Europe, and beyond.
