Modern democracy is strained by polarization and rigid top-down politics, which often marginalize grassroots autonomy. To restore civic trust, we must urgently revitalize democracy from the bottom up, transforming closed party structures into open, citizen-centric platforms.

Following South Korea’s local elections, two next-generation leaders deliver a live field report on overcoming political polarization. Bo-mi Kim, a youth candidate for ruling party leadership, shares her vision of shifting political power back to the public square, echoing the original spirit of Almedalen. Alongside her, grassroots politician Jin-ho Jeong diagnoses top-down reform failures and presents concrete, community-built alternatives. Moving beyond theory, this session shows how robust local democracy can rebuild civic trust, concluding with an interactive Q&A.
